American Horror Story Seasons RANKED Best to Worst

AHS

I just recently watched all 6 seasons of American Horror Story. I have been told many times it was something I needed to do – and I was always interested in watching them, I just never got around to it. Well, I decided it was finally time and binged watched them all the way through. I decided to rank them in order of my favorite – however, I highly recommend watching them in order.

Even though they are totally different stories, they do link together and give other seasons nods here and there. Many of the actors appear in more than one season (in fact, most of the main cast are in all of the seasons) but they play totally different characters. I find this really interesting and it is part of the reason I just love this show. It proves that these actors are incredibly talented because they can play different roles with such ease.

AHS 1

Season 1: Murder House

Let me start this off by saying that I love Dylan McDermott. That probably has a lot of influence on my love for this season. I also really enjoyed the story line (no spoilers in this post, I promise). This season had it’s hooks in me and I finished it in just a couple of days. In fact, I might just go back and rewatch this season before season 7 comes out because I loved it that much. The acting was great, and I fell in love with Evan Peters who plays “Tate” because of it. He is fantastic and definitely one of my favorite cast members, along with Jessica Lange.

AHS 2

Season 2: Asylum

This season was spooky and kept me guessing throughout most of it. I really enjoyed the different story lines – and the Adam Levine cameos were great. He isn’t in it much, but he is awesome when he is. I especially enjoyed that this season has been tied to multiple other seasons, and I think that is what influenced my decision so much. Some parts got a little weird, but that is what American Horror Story does – it gets weird!

AHS 5

Season 5: Hotel

I liked this season a lot more than I thought I would. I honestly have never been a fan of Lady GaGa and I thought for sure that was going to influence how I felt about this season. But the twists and turns were spot on – and I actually enjoyed her acting. In fact, I kind of like her now, as much as I hate to admit that. Evan Peters had another stellar performance in this season, and I just loved Dennis O’Hare. They are both great in other seasons, but they both really stood out in this one for me.

Season 8: Apocalypse

I really enjoyed how they added Coven in to this season.

AHS 4

Season 4: Freak Show

Another fantastic season. I do wish it has more twists and surprises in it, but it kept me entertained. This season took me a few more days than the others to finish because I was slow getting in to it. In the end though, I really enjoyed it – although I hated the ending. I just wanted something more. But the ending didn’t ruin the whole season for me – still a must watch! Sarah Paulson is superb in all of her seasons, but her portrayal of Dot and Bette Tattler, the two headed siamese twins, really stood out to me. I am super excited because Ryan Murphy told EW in 2016 that Season 7 will explore the characters of Freak Show more. I am hoping this will give me the ending and clarity I was hoping for!

AHS 3

Season 3: Coven

I really wanted to like this season more. I had heard so many good things about it, but it seemed boring to me at times and was slow moving here and there. It took me a while to get through the first few episodes because it did not really interest me. About halfway through the season though it really picked up and I started to enjoy it more. The ending for this one kind of fell flat for me again, which seems to be a constant with this series. I am almost always left wanting more, which I guess is a good thing.

Season 7: Cult

Honestly, I still haven’t finished this season. It fell flat for me almost right away. I got through about half of it, and totally lost interest.

AHS 6

Season 6: Roanoke

This is actually the first season that I watched. I liked it so much that I decided to go back and watch all the past seasons. I find it funny that this ended up being my least favorite season out of them all. I still do like this season, so that goes to show how great the show really is, it just happens to be my least favorite. I liked how this season started out, but about halfway through, it changed. It was still good, don’t get me wrong, but that transition is what ranks this as my least favorite season.

American Horror Story has been picked up for two more seasons and I cannot wait to see what they come up with! A few of the actors have already signed on, so you know they will be good!

I haven't seen Season 6 yet. I try to avoid watching it on TV because I hate when I have to miss an episode. I wait for them to come out on DVD then get the DVD and watch them all at my own pace. To me, the show just got better and better except for season 5, which I still liked, but didn't care for as much as the others (just can't stand vampire stuff) & I really missed some of the actors that didn't return from previous seasons. My ranking in order of my favorite seasons is 4 3 2 1 5
