Disclosure: I was provided with this experience from Disney Cruise Lines. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.
One of my most favorite parts about our Disney Cruise was our day at Castaway Cay. Castaway Cay is Disney’s private island – and it is beautiful! I have been to islands in the Caribbean before, but nothing like this. Not only is it gorgeous and relaxing – it is decked out Disney! If you are a Disney fanatic like me, Castaway Cay should be one of the top reasons you need to book your Disney Cruise now. And there are so many reasons to get off the boat when you pull into Castaway Cay.
Castaway Cay visitors find an island completely outfitted for premium family leisure. Ample amenities include open-air BBQ dining locations serving complimentary meals, 2 shops featuring Castaway Cay gifts and souvenirs, and convenient free tram transportation around the island. Connect with nature via a series of walking paths and bike rentals. Or, book a Participate in a hands-on training experience with live, native stingrays during a 60-minute, instructor-led educational program. Take advantage of Disney Character Greetings, including a Dance Party with Lilo and Stitch. When you’re ready for some solo time, complimentary childcare for ages 3 through 12 is available at Scuttle’s Cove, an on-island kids club expansive child’s area supervised by Disney counselors.
Escape to this secluded, adults-only oasis reserved exclusively for adults 18 years of age and over. There, you can luxuriate in the heart of serenity, treating yourself to such offerings as an open-air cabana massage under the swaying palm trees, or frozen specialty drinks at the Castaway Air Bar. Air Bar BBQ has hearty fare to sate you with something savory when hunger strikes.
The youngest cruisers will enjoy this sandy play spot—a “hub” of youth activities supervised by Disney counselors from the ship. Scuttle’s Cove now features a whimsical water play area: a 1,200-square-foot soft wet deck area provides fresh-water fun with an array of pop jets, geysers and bubblers. With organized activities and Monstro’s Point—a giant whale-bone excavation site—kids will be delighted all day long. (A limited number of all-terrain wheelchairs can be obtained here.)
Disney Cruise Line specially selects Port Adventures for their quality of service and richness of experience for all ages. These shore excursions are available at each port of call and you can look forward to exploring an exciting array as they become available. Be sure to check back for Port Adventures approximately 120 days prior to departure, as you’ll want to book in advance!
Snorkelers of all skill levels will be enchanted by the undersea realm of marine life off Castaway Family Beach. Novices can follow the Discover Trail, while more experienced snorkelers may wish to tackle the Explorer Trail. Keep an eye out for the hidden Mickey!
Throughout the day, meet and befriend some favorite Disney Characters at the Post Office, Gazebo, gangway and elsewhere on Castaway Cay. These are perfect moments for photo-snapping!
Yup, you can run a 5K on Castaway Cay! Just sign up once you are on the boat and you are good to go! My husband and I are planning on running this during our February Cruise – and we cannot wait! If you have kids that are too young, or do not want to participate, they can always hang out at the Oceaneer Club or Scuttle Cove.
