The Season two premiere of When Calls the Heart is coming up and I for one, am excited. It will air on Saturday, April 25, in a special two-hour event at 8pm EST on the Hallmark Channel. I was lucky enough to receive season one on DVD (I had not seen them all, but I had seen some) and a sneak peek at the season two premiere episode. I popped in the first DVD this weekend and ended up completely binge watching most of the season – even rewatching the episodes I had seen. This show is completely addictive so make sure you have a lot of time to watch it when you start it – you won’t be able to stop!
About the series:
The series is inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling book series about the Canadian West. “When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coalmining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a turn of the century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.
In the season two premiere, the beloved citizens of Coal Valley are faced with turmoil as they await justice for the coal mining tragedy, just as new romance heats up on the frontier. I refuse to giveaway any spoilers – especially to those of you that have not even watched the first season yet. I will say that I would be shocked if you didn’t love it. My husband is not that big in to dramas and he enjoyed watching it with me. The acting is incredible in this series. It really is a must watch show!
